This article examines some points of agreement and disagreement between Francisco Suárez and St. Thomas Aquinas in the areas of metaphysics and dogmatic theology. It shows that the disagreements in metaphysics are due to Suárez’s desire to avoid the reification of concepts after the challenge of Nominalism. In the field of dogmatic theology, differences are shown between Suárez and St. Thomas in Christology, Mariology, and the relation between grace and freedom.
