Abstract

The article argues that in the work Consolation of Philosophy Christian doctrines are detected in some passages of the work. Textual passages and doctrinal evidence are analyzed. In addition, it is proved that
Boethius’ intention is similar to that of making the genre of philosophical consolation a Christian genre, different from the pagan consolation of Cicero, and other previous authors. Finally, it is argued that the consciousness that Boethius has of himself at the time of his arrest and imprisonment is that of an exemplary citizen, who sees himself unjustly injured, for which he requires, rather than a plea for salvation, or a meditation in which he resigns himself to his fate, a rational explanation of man’s situation in the world.
