Abstract

Although irreducible to each other, the acts of the intellect and of the will constitute the operative dynamism proper to the rational living being. Though, when studying the relationship or interaction between both powers, it is usually said that the understanding has priority with respect to the specification of the will, while the will has priority with respect to the exercise. In this article, however, we would like to invert the problem and analyze, on the one hand, from Thomasian principles, in what sense it could be said that the exercise of the will depends on the understanding and, on the other hand, how the inclination can affect the knowledge of an object.
