Commenting Pseudo-Dionysius ´ De divinis nominibus, Albertus Magnus notices a tension between a) the order in which the divine denominations are expounded by the Areopagite, in which the term “Good” precedes the term “Being”; and b) the priority the concept “entity” has in the doctrine of transcendentals (ens, unum, verum, bonum). This research analyzes the passages that deal with this tension, highlighting the continuity and divergence of the Areopagite thinking in Albertus Magnus commentary on the issue.
