La pretensión de verdad de la tradición y la experiencia hermenéutica

Abstract

The aim of this research is to show that tradition’s intention of truth is a vital concept in the hermeneutic experience that Gadamer develops in Truth and Method but, at the same time and in spite of its importance, the treatment he gives it is not sufficient since he does not draw all consequences that derive from the idea of truth it contains. For that purpose: 1) the intention of truth is considered to be part of tradition’s interpellation that serves as a starting point for understanding; 2) the implications of the “anticipation of perfection” about the idea of truth are analyzed; 3) the understanding of language as Darstellung is discussed; and 4) the similarity between the experience of truth and the experience of beauty is proved not to do justice to tradition’s intention of truth.
