Abstract

This presentation seeks to present principally the peculiarity of Avicenna’s corpus known in Latin Scholastics. In this sense, special attention will be paid to the main points of Avicenna’s doctrine -especially the ones embodied in Avicenna’s De anima and Philosophia prima-, the place their interpretation occupies in the remaining works of Arabian authors, especially in Algacel’s Metaphysics, and Averroe’s critics. As many arabists have pointed out, Islamic philosophy is significant in itself but its main importance derives from its impact in the development of western philosophy. This is so that the history of Scholastics cannot be written without taking into account Arabic philosophy. In this sense, the presence of Avicenna’s thought in the main discussions of Scholastic philosophy will be illustrated.
