Abstract

The aim of this paper is to point out that the theoretical foundation of school mediation in analog hermeneutics influences the training process of mediators. The theoretical foundation on school mediation based on analogic hermeneutics allows us to re-defi ne “mediation” as a “prudential” process. The mediator profi le acquires, in turn, a very different physiognomy from that of an “impartial administrator of a conflict”. School mediation, as a strategy of public policy oriented to address the problem of violence in school, has an implied educational meaning, as it assumes that both teachers and principals are theoretically and practically prepared to address this issue. So, a prudent mediator will conduct a prudent educational process, and this means and also involves a “virtuous training process” and not just a “technical training process”. Firstly, we will briefl y refer to mediation as a political strategy of education for peace. Then, we will show the conceptual link between hermeneutics, mediation and prudence and also the theoretical impact of this relationship. Finally, we will characterize the meaning and the scope of the training process of the “prudent mediator”.
