A new phenomenon occurs in the feudal society’s heart revealing a secular movement that preoccupies clergymen in the 12th century. Courtly love, as has been popularized then, represents an earthly claim against the ecclesiastical asceticism embodied in the rustic medieval Europe. The speakers of this phenomenon will be the troubadours and minstrels who travel the roads and medieval courts reviving the classical ovidian spirit. In this context, Andreas Capellanus writes De amore, a treaty which will focus in the confl ict between the point of view of society and the Church.
