Abstract

The aim of this paper, which is based on texts of Saint Thomas Aquinas, is to reveal the connection between the truth known by humans and their virtuous life. In this relationship, the mediating role of the reason and the intellectual virtues, as well as the virtue of wisdom, will become relevant. The concern about such topic lies, on one hand, in those writings dealing with the moral life of humans, which do not usually emphasize how signifi cant the truth is at the moment of determining human acts. The connection between a virtuous life and good is frequently highlighted, disregarding the fact that for something to be good it must fi rst be known as true. On the other hand, the signifi cant role of reason in human’s life has been currently set aside, giving rise to various types of voluntarisms or sentimentalisms.
