Abstract

The arrival of Miguel Hesayne to the diocese of Viedma in 1975 was marked by the air of post-conciliar ecclesial renewal that began to be evident with the pontificates of John XXIII (1958 - 1963) and Paul VI (1963 - 1978). His pastoral project (1975-1993) went through different stages, one of them marked by the Diocesan Pastoral Synod (1980-1985), a moment considered “hinge” for the diocese, because it laid the foundations of the “New Rio Negro Church”.In this article we will analyze the pre-synodal stage (1980-1983) with the objective of tracing and identifying, from the beginning of the bishopric, the central guidelines that marked the path to the Diocesan Pastoral Synod and became the fundamental pillars of the project. of the “New Rio Negro Church”. Based on this, a qualitative approach will be carried out on documentary sources gathered from the archive of the bishopric of Viedma (reports from Vicarial assemblies, diocesan commissions, homilies, diocesan bulletin) and from the personal archive of the priest Juan Ángel Dieuzeide
