Abstract

In this article, the author analyzes the right and duty of parents to educate their children in the Compendium of the Social Doctrine of the Church and complementary sources, emphasizing that the family is the first and vital cell of society and whose existence is prior to the State. He then recalls that parents are the first and foremost educators of their children, and must offer an integral education, the principle of subsidiarity being the norm that must guide the family-State relationship in the social order. Finally, it refers to current issues such as religious education in public schools or comprehensive sex education, concluding that the right of parents to educate their children according to their moral and religious convictions cannot be cancelled by the State, but must be respected and promoted.
