Abstract

In this work we propose to first examine the Marionian conception of the divine names, and in particular, its position with respect to the Tomasian choice of the name of “Being” as the “proper name” of God, in terms of its meaning for both philosophy and theology. Secondly, we will try to confront Marion’s theses with those that emerge from Thomas’s texts, finally seeking to provide a (partial) response to Marion’s proposal, in the light of Thomas’s doctrine of the significance of names.
